Twelve Filipino fishermen reported missing in rough seas have been found alive after they managed to keep their sinking boat afloat. The fisherman went missing Tuesday after it was thought their boat went down. But coast guard chief Adm. Wilfredo Tamayo said Friday that the crew was actually able to pump water out of the boat and stay afloat long enough to reach nearby shores. A tropical depression and monsoon rains have whipped up big waves in the northern and central Philippines, sinking and overturning several passenger boats and a domestic cargo ship with a crew of 16. The coast guard says two crewmen from the freighter have been rescued, six have drowned and eight are missing.
