More than 400 development projects were showcased by 1,200 students of International Indian School in Dammam (IISD) during a two-day exhibition held last weekend. The educational exhibition, called “EDUEX 2008”, with its theme “Our Earth – Our Life,” displayed diverse projects in science and technology, social sciences, mathematics, information technology, language and literature, Saudi Arabian culture and Islamic studies, arts and crafts, commerce, trade, and economics. A panel of judges from different expatriate schools in the Eastern Province evaluated the projects. Engineer Essam Al-Mulla, Director of the Municipality of Al-Khobar, inaugurated the educational exhibition. Also present were Ministry of Education officials Khalid Ruwai and Makbool Hussain. The projects included desalination of water by Ahmed Saed Ali of 12th grade, regulating the speed of a motor by Philip Thomas of 8th grade, digestion in human body by Aman of 7th grade, crude oil distillation by Fransisco Chinnu and Mohammed Atiq Fuad of grade 8 and magnetic crane by Nafsal Siddique of 8th grade. Separating fat from the milk using a drop of dish washing liquid was displayed as ‘Magic Milk' by Nabeel and Faiz of 8th grade. Mohammed Mushtaq, grade 9, tested the blood sugar level of visitors with the same care and seriousness of a professional doctor. Rabin Eldo John of 9th grade displayed his personal discovery of frequency interference where one can use the same technology of blue tooth to hear songs from the car avoiding the health problems of Bluetooth. He explained that this is done by using the metal shield of the car to diverge and regulate radio waves. Thirty-five students at special care section demonstrated their talents by showcasing innovative and creative art works, including vegetable printing in black socks, quilt made by using old clothes, door mats, scarves, models of houses. Models of kaleidoscope and telescopes, “magic” of vanishing coin, and making carpet glue by dissolving thermocol in petrol gained much attraction and appreciation of the judges and visitors. Visitors said the works of the special children indicated their creative abilities. Also present during the inauguration were members of the school managing committee. __
