Prince Abdul Aziz Bin Majed Bin Abdul Aziz, Emir of Madina warned Tuesday that he will not tolerate merchants raising prices of consumer products during Ramadan. The Emir said he has given orders to intensify inspections and tighten controls on markets selling food and essential commodities to ensure that merchants don't increase the prices as demand for essential commodities goes up during the holy month. “Merchants represent a large segment, thus they should fear Allah in dealing with the public,” he said. Prince Abdul Aziz made the comment while touring projects, which were ordered by King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, to expand the northern courtyards in the Prophet's Mosque. He said the project will increase the capacity of the internal courtyards to more than a million worshippers. Prince Abdul Aziz also inspected the expansion project at Prince Muhammad Bin Abdul Aziz Airport in Madina and directed the contactor to increase efforts in order to meet the September deadline. He said the new terminals at the airport will cope with the increase in international flights scheduled for pilgrims and Umrah pilgrims. He once again urged the merchants to not overcharge consumers and pointed out that he gave instructions that he is to receive a daily report on price trends for consumer commodities before and during the holy month of Ramadan.
