delayed King Abdul Aziz Road's underpass here was finally opened Sunday – two days before the end of the 15-day grace period given to the contracting firm for its completion by Prince Abdul Aziz Bin Majed, Emir of the province. Prince Abdul Aziz had issued directives, and the grace period, for the completion of the project because it had been delayed for four years. The underpass heads to the Prophet's Mosque and is expected to ease traffic congestion especially during Haj and Umrah periods. A considerable amount of workers from the contracting firm, with their vehicles and machines, succeeded in speeding up the work and completing it within the grace period. Several contractors had taken charge of the project over the past four years. During this time residents in the eastern districts had to endure heavy traffic to reach the mosque, especially for Taraweeh, Ramadan's night prayers. It often took an hour to cover three kilometers.
