The Makkah General Court has set Aug. 24 to look into a case filed by a Saudi citizen against a wedding hall in the city for the abrupt power failure during his marriage rituals. The lawsuit filed by the Saudi said power outage during his wedding inflicted a huge financial loss on him and also caused him and his groom mental torture. The lawsuit said the man lost about SR100,000 due to the power failure. Explaining his losses, the man said he paid SR25,000 for the rental of the hall and SR75,000 for food, beverages and other catering services in addition to other expenses as the money he paid for folklore dancing band. “We were preparing for the wedding of my nephew and niece for more than six months but the power cut shattered all our dreams,” an uncle of the couple said. He said the guests started leaving the hall as they waited endlessly for the restoration of the power. He said all the guests left the hall with the exception of a handful of relatives. The matter was reported to security authorities who directed the owner of the wedding hall to refund the rental money but he initially refused but later relented and agreed to refund half of the rent. “But the next day when the payment was supposed to be made, the owner adamantly refused to pay a single halala to us,” the uncle said.
