A Somali pickpocket was arrested here Wednesday for stealing the Iqama of a Syrian driver and demanding money to return the same. The police, acting on a complaint from the Syrian driver, laid out a trap to arrest the culprit. The driver was told to agree to pay the pickpocket and as the details were being finalized the police swooped on the culprit and arrested him. First Lt. Nawaf Al-Bouq, spokesman for Jeddah Police, said the thief admitted to his crime and that he had earlier been involved in similar crimes. Al-Bouq warned residents not to submit to the demands of thieves and called on the public to report similar incidents to security authorities.
