What is the ruling on throwing leftover food remnants that can not be benefited from such as bones, into a trash barrel? A – There is no problem with throwing in the trash spoiled food that will not be eaten. As for good food which may be eaten, even if by animals, if it is possible that the animals or the birds may eat it, then it is not permissible to throw it. Food is highly regarded. And when it can be benefited from, throwing it in the trash means to have low regard for it and to waste it. So if those leftovers are from food which may be benefited from then it is not permissible to throw it in the trash, but if it can't be benefited from and is spoiled then there is nothing wrong with throwing it away. – Sheikh Saleh Al-Fawzan; Al-Liqa Al
