The Kingdom will participate with other nations in the world No-Tobacco Day titled “Youth Without Tobacco” set by the World Health Organization Saturday. Minister of Health Dr. Hamad Bin Abdullah Al-Mane' said the theme of this year's No-Tobacco Day aims to protect young people from the dangers of tobacco and to encourage them to adopt healthy behavior to be effective in building a healthy society, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said. Prince Misha'l Bin Majed, Governor of Jeddah, will launch the third anti-smoking campaign Sunday. The campaign entitled “Youths are Nation's Hope” is being organized under the patronage of Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Emir of Makkah Region and Honorary Chairman of the Charitable Society for Enlightenment on the Harms of Smoking and use of Drugs. Prince Misha'l will establish scores of illumination projects about the dangers of smoking. The campaign will also include a competition about awareness of the smoking hazards. Prince Misha'l will also lay the foundation stone of the new building of the society. Sheikh Abdullah Bin Abdul Rahman Al-Othaim, head of the society, said his organization is planning several activities and seminars on the subject. “This third campaign is especially targeting the youth because they are the future of the nation. The campaign will welcome participation from different walks of life,” Al-Othaim said. The women's section of the society will also be involved in this campaign and women volunteers will hand out thousands of pamphlets and brochures containing guidelines for women wanting to quit smoking, he said. Tens of thousands of Saudis and expatriates have benefited from the previous campaigns and the periodical activities of the society in Makkah and Jeddah regions. Many heavy smokers have been motivated to quit smoking throughout specialized programs and scientific methods recognized by prominent medical centers. The general aim of the society is to create public awareness about this bad and perilous habit and to implement methodical techniques of avoiding and quitting smoking. __
