A day after her 21st birthday, Azarenka broke the Russian three times in the first set then took advantage of 16 unforced errors in the second set by Sharapova while committing only one to win the 700,000-dollar hardcourt event. “I haven't lost a match yet since I turned 21,” Azarenka said. “It's great. I can have cake now.” In the semifinals, Sharapova shook off a first-set loss to beat Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 and Azarenka celebrated her 21st birthday with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over top-seeded Samantha Stosur. It's the first time since 1999 and fifth time ever that the top two seeds reached the final here. Querrey needed 2 hours and 47 minutes to beat Tipsarevic at the Los Angeles Tennis Center on the UCLA campus. “That was an awesome match, a lot of fun, a lot of drama,” Querrey said. There were missed chances on both sides. Querrey lost the first set after holding five set points in the 12th game. Tipsarevic failed to convert a match point in the 10th game of the second set, then blew a 5-1 lead in the tiebreaker. Querrey reeled off six straight points, helped by a few big serves, to win the tiebreaker when Tipsarevic netted a backhand. All of Almagro's victories have been won on clay courts, with the previous just two weeks ago at Sweden's Bastad. Almagro raced to a 5-3 lead in the first set only for Gasquet to battle back to 5-5. The Spaniard then dug deep, producing two timely aces to seal the set. In the second the Spaniard gave no quarter to Gasquet, who had missed Wimbledon because of a back injury, and the Frenchman struggled to win just one game as Almagro raced ahead to seal the match. Ferrero coasts to win Spaniard Juan Carlos Ferrero coasted to victory in the ATP Croatia Open on Sunday with a straight sets win over Italy's Potito Starace.
