smoking and drugs society (Kafa) has urged authorities to impose still penalties on shops selling cigarettes to youngsters. The society said during its awareness campaign against smoking, its teams came across several shops selling cigarettes to young boys violating the regulations. “Such a negative behavior will increase the number of smokers in the society,” said Abdullah Sarouji, Executive Manager of Kafa. Sarouji lamented the lack of monitoring commercial outlets. “I have yet to hear any shop being penalized for selling cigarettes to youngsters,” he said. “This is a real threat to the health of our new generations. Concerned authorities should seriously play their roles. Moreover, society members need to join hands to fight this phenomenon. Unless we do it, consequences will be frightening,” he said. The charitable society has earlier said that its summer campaign has led 1,300 people to completely give up smoking.
