Two schools for different sexes located very close to each other have upset the residents in Al-Wasta District here. Claiming that a girls' intermediate school and a boys' secondary school are only 150 meters apart, irate residents blame the Education Administration for not following official guidelines and renting a building for the boys' school adjacent to the girls' school, with only a wall separating them. The residents have urged the Ministry of Education to cancel the rental contract and move the boys' school to another location. They addressed their concerns, particularly the possibility of teenage boys and girls mingling, in a petition. A source said administrators are sometimes forced to rent buildings near other schools because there are no alternatives. Conditions governing the rental of buildings to be used as schools make it mandatory for administrators to provide the Emir's Office with drawings of the buildings and their surroundings so authorities can assess the location to ensure proper security and planning.
