Mayor Adel Fakeih is expected to issue a set of decisions involving the reshuffling of senior mayoralty officials and relieving some other employees who originally worked for private companies but were working in the Mayor's Office on deputation. The move comes after critical General Auditing Bureau (GAB) and Control and Investigation Board (CIB) reports pointed to financial and administrative violations at the mayoralty. Sources said the decisions that are expected to involve senior officials come in response to official correspondence the mayor has received from the Ministry of Rural and Municipal Affairs and other bodies. These government agencies have directed the mayor to review the mayoralty's financial and administrative procedures that were largely criticized by the media after last November's devastating floods in the city. The mayor has been further asked, sources said, to restructure the mayoralty and regulate the process of spending in accordance with the ministry's approved structure.
