Sudais, Head Imam and Khateeb of the Grand Mosque in Makkah, urged Muslims to be merciful and tolerant and to respect the rights of others. In his Friday sermon at the Regents Park London Central Mosque, Sheikh Al-Sudais said the first right to be respected is the right of Allah the Almighty – to worship Him and obey Him. The second is the right of the Prophet (peace be upon him) – to love, obey and follow him. And then the rights of Muslims and also the rights of all mankind. He advised Muslims to follow the teachings of Islam and to represent it in the best form in their worship, character and relations with others. He devoted most of his sermon to family ties and their importance in society. Sheikh Al-Sudais said there are clear rights and responsibilities for husbands and wives in Islam. He encouraged Muslims to follow the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) by being kind and polite to their wives as Allah the Almighty said, “Live with your wives honorably”, and the Prophet in his Farewell Sermon said three times, “I advised you to treat women nicely”.
