Two brothers at the Taif Prison are believed to have gone on a hunger strike for being held for over two years despite orders for their release. Acting Director of Taif Prison Col. Ahmad Al-Shihri said his administration is investigating a report sent to a national human rights body on the case. “I heard about this matter but nothing has been confirmed to us,” he said. “This matter is being probed and we have not found any prisoner refusing to take his meals.” An official source at the National Society for Human Rights (NSHR) confirmed that they received a complaint from two brothers who said they were declaring a hunger strike in Taif Prison. The source said Dr. Muflih Al-Qahtani, chairman of the NSHR, ordered an investigation into the complaint on Monday and if it is found that the men are not eating, they will take all necessary measures to end their hunger strike and find solutions for their case. The two men said their continued imprisonment is meant to exert pressure on them to relinquish their private rights in a case in which their father was killed. They said this led them to file a case with the national human rights body.
