Police and the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice raided what they described as an “alcohol factory” at abandoned farmland in the east of Al-Aflaj on Sunday. The suspicions of the authorities had been aroused by unusual comings and goings at strange hours and surveillance established that three persons were running the operation. The raid uncovered large quantities of liquor and alcohol-making equipment, as well as “musical instruments”. The three suspects had already fled the scene, officials said, but their identities were known and arrests are expected shortly.
