The municipal council has praised homeowners in the Al-Baha village of Al-Jawfaa' for relinquishing ownership of their properties to allow the construction of its first proper road to the outside world. Seventeen property owners in the Al-Baha region have in recent times allowed authorities to take over their properties for road building, prompting Municipal Council Chairman Ali Al-Ghamdi to praise the “cooperation of the public in serving the greater interest”. “The municipality has sent in vehicles and equipment to start work on roads and street lighting and concrete barriers in some areas,” he said. One home owner in Al-Jawfaa', Al-Ghamdi said, had sought no compensation for giving up his property. “This shows a great spirit of initiative in helping us finally resolve the difficulties that the village has suffered for many years,” he said. The road, villagers said, would remove a number of hardships faced by them, especially moving of the sick people to hospitals. Villagers also praised Al-Ghamdi for his significant role in uniting people for the ‘greater good'.
