The Muslim World League has been doing pioneering work forging Islamic unity and bringing the whole Ummah under one umbrella, Dr. Abdullah Bin Abdul Mohsin Al-Turki, Secretary General of the organization, said here Tuesday. Addressing a press conference to commemorate the organization's 50th anniversary, Al-Turki highlighted the achievements of the MWL since its inception on Jan. 22, 1962 corresponding to Shaban 15, 1381 of the Hijra calendar. During all these years, Dr. Turki said, the organization strived to achieve its desired aim. “There were several crises and we passed through them successfully,” he said. “A call for unity from the birthplace of Islam ran deep into the hearts of Muslims and the Muslim World League successfully overcame challenges hindering Islamic unity,” he said. The Muslim World League established the International Islamic Relief Organization that filled a great vacuum and met the challenges facing the Muslim Ummah, Al-Turki said. The other great achievement was the establishment of the Islamic University in Madina that opened its doors to all the Muslim students of the world. It was essential to have scholars in all parts of the world to give the call of Islam, he said. An institution in Makkah was also formed to prepare men for dawa work. It imparted education to college and university students on ways to face challenges and to adopt ways and means for effective calls in achieving the union of the Muslim Ummah. Later various institutions were established in several countries of the world. The other important work was the establishment of the International Organization for the Building and Development of Mosques which helped in the construction of thousands of mosques across the world. In the face of vicious anti-Islam propaganda launched by some vested interests, the Muslim World League organized several symposia and seminars to present the correct picture of the religion. It also organized a conference against terrorism wherein international scholars decried the militant acts of some lunatics which tarnished Islam, the religion of peace, Al
