In what some observers might describe as a violation of customary practice, a policeman in an official vehicle was fined in Jeddah on Thursday for jumping a red light. The infraction was observed by Sa'ad Al-Ghamdi, Jeddah's chief of Police Patrols, while he was out on an inspection tour of police checkpoints across the city, and prompted a stern talking-to for the officer in question and a fine which he was urged to pay “as swiftly as possible”. The precipitous policeman was not the only official to catch Al-Ghamdi's eagle eye, however, as another policeman, again driving a police vehicle, was spotted not wearing his seat belt.
