Prince Naif Bin Abdul Aziz Minister of Interior received Chairman of Commission for Investigation and Public Prosecution Sheikh Muhammed Bin Fahd Al-Abdullah and his two deputies as well as director of Commission branches across the Kingdom. Addressing the meeting Prince Naif emphasized the importance of the Commission and its task in reinforcing justice pointing that the Commission is burdened with delicate responsibilities. He said the Commission helps judges in understanding and grasping every dimension of a case in order to reach a clear judgement. He also said one of the significant tasks the Commission assumes is finding answers to complicated cases. Because of the Commission innocents are released and the criminals are put to trial. “The Commission examines all cases reported by the police and keeps them confidential until an indictment is returned or criminal action or proceedings have begun in court. This reflects great tasks it shoulders. Prince Naif has stressed that the legal system has defined procedures of detention for suspects where a suspect must be detained. After such a period the suspect can be released on bail limiting him from traveling until the case reaches a verdict. He continued to say, “some crimes occur which we would happen inevitably because of our conservative society. This stems from the drastic changes in lifestyle and thinking occurring around the world. Especially if we take into account the phenomenal progress made in the telecommunication field which has changed the world into a global village. We are part of the world, what affects the world affects us.” “Commission members are appointed, relieved of their post only by a royal order. Demonstrating the great importance the King gives to the task of the Commission,” Prince Naif said. Prince Naif called upon all media outlets to investigate the facts and refrain from sensationalism. He urged members of the press to investigate issues fully and to facilitate this a new position has been set up. “We have appointed a security spokesmen in every police department to brief reporters and journalists on all developments which occur in an investigation,” Prince Naif said. He said some journalists come up with sensational headlines to excite and attract the readers. “We are in the processing of writing a law to deal with such behavior.” Following this Prince Naif inaugurated a new website launched by the Public Prosecution to enable citizens and residents to report about any prisoner or person who is illegally detained.
