The Philadelphia Phillies survived another poor offensive showing with a 2-0 victory that ended the St. Louis Cardinals' eight-game winning streak and averted a four-game sweep on Thursday. Placido Polanco homered leading off the 11th inning. Cole Hamels allowed one hit in eight innings, a solid single by Matt Holliday leading off the fourth. Four relievers, including Chad Durbin (2-1) did not allow a hit over the final three innings to finish the one-hitter. Brad Lidge worked the 11th for his eighth save in 11 chances. Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright missed a chance to match Colorado Rockies ace Ubaldo Jimenez as the majors' lone 15-game winners. Kyle McClellan (1-3) took the loss. Dodgers 2, Mets 0: At Los Angeles, Hiroki Kuroda threw eight outstanding innings and Matt Kemp drove in both runs for Los Angeles. It was the Dodgers' second consecutive 2-0 win, having edged San Francisco a night earlier. The Mets lost their fourth straight. They are scoreless in their last 17 innings after going 24 straight innings without a run last weekend in San Francisco. Kuroda outpitched countryman Hisanori Takahashi in the sixth major league meeting of starters born in Japan. Kuroda (8-8) allowed five hits, struck out four and walked one. The right-hander ended a personal three-game skid with his first win since June 26 against the New York Yankees.. Hong-Chih Kuo, who is Taiwanese, pitched the ninth for his third save. The left-hander hasn't given up a run in 16 1-3 innings at home. Takahashi (7-5) gave up two runs and three hits in seven innings, struck out five and walked two.
