Residents of northern Taif governorate have been sweating it out as the power outage crisis here continued for the third straight day on Thursday. Several calls from residents to electricity department officials have failed to elicit a convincing reply and children, the sick and the elderly are having a harrowing time. Telephone calls from Okaz/Saudi Gazette to Saudi Electricity Company officials to learn the reasons for the power outage went unanswered. Meanwhile, a source in the electricity company attributed the power failure to the main distribution station that feeds the governorate with electricity. Owing to the harsh weather conditions, he said, a record amount of electricity is being consumed in the governorate which has overburdened the power grid.
