run homer in the 14th inning gave the Texas Rangers an 8-6 win over the Detroit Tigers in an American League game Monday that was marred by two injuries. The Tigers lost their sixth straight game despite two home runs from Miguel Cabrera, while the Rangers won for the first time in 12 attempts in Detroit. The game had a scary moment in the sixth inning when Rangers reliever Dustin Nippert was hit in the head by Austin Jackson's line drive. The ball landed in left field for a double as Texas players and staff raced toward the mound. Nippert quickly sat up and walked off the field under his own power. Detroit lost third baseman Brandon Inge for 4-6 weeks with a broken hand when he was hit by a pitch from Scott Feldman in the third. Texas' Matt Harrison (2-1) got out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the bottom of the 11th. Cruz finally ended it with a shot just inside the right-field pole off Enrqiue Gonzalez (0-1). Red Sox 2, Athletics 1: In Oakland, Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched two-hit ball into the seventh inning as Boston edged Oakland. Matsuzaka (7-3) has won consecutive starts after going more than a month without a win. Adrian Beltre homered in the fourth inning as the Red Sox got off to a strong start on their 10-game West Coast road trip. Oakland starter Ben Sheets (4-9) put together another solid outing, allowing two runs in 6 2-3 innings but the A's five-game winning streak was ended. Boston's Jonathan Papelbon pitched a perfect ninth for his 21st save in 24 opportunities. Indians 10, Twins 4: In Minneapolis, Trevor Crowe drove in two runs and had a career-high four hits among Cleveland's season-high 20 as the Indians beat Minnesota. Crowe and Jason Donald both drove in two runs to help the Indians start the second half of the season 5-0 for the first time in history. Royals 5, Blue Jays 4, 10 innings: In Kansas City, Alberto Callaspo's RBI single with two outs in the 10th inning helped Kansas City edge Toronto and snap a six-game losing streak. White Sox 6, Mariners 1: In Seattle, Alex Rios hit a go-ahead, two-run homer and had three RBIs as Chicago beat Seattle to rebound from perhaps their toughest defeat of the season. Rays 8, Orioles 1: In Baltimore, rookie pitcher Wade Davis allowed one run over eight innings in another sparkling performance, steering Tampa Bay to a comfortable win over Baltimore.
