City opens US tour with 3-0 win
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 19 - 07 - 2010

Manchester City kicked off its summer exhibition tour of the United States with a 3-0 victory over the Portland Timbers.
Stephen Ireland and Emmanuel Adebayor scored quick back-to-back goals Saturday night for City, which has been training at the Nike corporate headquarters in Beaverton for the past week.
It was the fourth international friendly this season for the Timbers, who will make the leap to Major League Soccer next season.
The game, played at the University of Portland's Merlo Field, was sold out with all of the 5,018 seats going to Timbers' season ticket holders.
Earthquakes, Tottenham draw
In California, goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini made six saves, including two in the final three minutes to help Tottenham draw with the San Jose Earthquakes 0-0 in a friendly Saturday.
Cudicini, who missed much of last season recovering from wrist and pelvis injuries from a motorcycle accident, played solidly in Tottenham's first tune-up before the start of the English Premier League next month. He made three saves in the first half.
San Jose's Javier Robles missed a free kick that sailed high and over the net in the 87th minute while Arturo Alvarez was wide on his attempt two minutes later.
Tottenham recovered and had a chance to score late but Gareth Bale missed high from close range in the final seconds.
Barca seals Adriano switch
Spanish champion Barcelona Saturday completed the signing of Brazilian utility player Adriano Correia from rivals Sevilla on a four-year deal.
Barcelona will pay Sevilla 9.5 million euros for the 25-year-old, plus another four million euros depending on results. The champion also has an option to extend the deal by another year.
West Ham signs Barrera
Mexico winger Pablo Barrera has joined Premier League club West Ham United on a four-year deal.
West Ham said Friday it is paying Mexican club Pumas four million pounds ($6 million) for the 23-year-old.
Barrera is the London club's second signing after Germany midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger, who was granted a British work permit Thursday.
West Ham says it will announce the signing of two more players later Friday.
