A Yemeni is to stand before a three-judge panel at the General Court in Jeddah charged with the rape and attempted rape of 16 boys. The Attorney General is seeking the death penalty for the accused. The 36-year-old Yemeni, according to sources, has signed a confession to the charges, which concern the rape and attempted rape of minors aged between nine and 13 years. The Bureau of Investigation and Prosecution presented during its inquiry the results of laboratory examinations and the accused was identified by victims. The crimes were reportedly committed in various areas of the city, Nadia Naseer, a social worker and family education specialist, warned families to keep their children under observation, and said that the families of child victims to such crimes should also be held accountable “should any failings on their part be proven”. “Families should not throw their children into the street in the afternoon just because the parents wish to rest, and they should not let them out late at night when drug dealers and criminals may be around seeking to fulfill their reprehensible desires,” Naseer said.
