The General Court has sentenced three Saudis to death for drug smuggling. The three were part of a nine-strong gang accused of smuggling 96 kg of hashish from Yemen to Jizan and then on to Jeddah. Four of the group were previously given prison sentences of 15 years each. The seven are to take their cases to the Court of Appeal. One of the nine, who was found guilty of use of drugs, will not appeal his sentence of 70 lashes of the whip, while another was cleared of all charges. Sources said the nine were arrested during operations by the Anti-Narcotics Unit which discovered the drugs in the wheels and other places of several cars. – Okaz/SG Jeddah's General Court has now in the last two months sentenced 12 drug smugglers and dealers to death, five of them Saudi nationals.
