On behalf of King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Emir of Makkah, washed the Holy Ka'ba Tuesday. The Emir and other dignitaries, including Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov, washed the inside of the Ka'ba with pieces of cloth dipped in Zamzam and rose water. The Vice President-General of the Grand Mosque of Makkah Affairs, Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Bin Nasser Al-Khozaim, said that the washing of the Ka'ba is a Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The Prophet washed the Ka'ba to cleanse it of vices after victory over unbelievers in Makkah. The Saudi government washes the inside of the Ka'ba twice a year - in Sha'ban and in Muharram.
