The Presidency of Meteorology and Environment (PME) in Tabuk has said that the heat wave that has struck the region is set to continue for “several days”. The temperatures of over 46 degrees centigrade recorded on Saturday, said PME regional head Muhaiya Al-Otaibi, were “the highest in the area for ten years”. “The next few days will see north and north-westerly winds at speeds of between 15 to 40kmph, possibly reaching 50kmph in the north and central areas,” Al-Otaibi said. “Humidity is expected to reach 35 percent.” Al-Otaibi said the high temperatures experienced across the Kingdom were caused by “vertical rays from the sun striking the tropic of Cancer in June.”
