The Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) has imposed a fine of SR5 million on some mobile companies found violating the ban on free international roaming service, a senior official has said. Dr. Dhaifallah Al-Zahrani, CITC's Deputy Governor for Legal Affairs, said the commission would continue to impose fines and penalties on companies found to be violating its rules. He said all free international roaming services are illegal. “We warn the citizens that these offers are not legal. In case a consumer files a complaint, he will not be entertained as he has already been forewarned,” the official said. The commission's decision on banning free international roaming services has been upheld by the Administrative Court (in the Board of Grievances), he said. He added that the verdict was issued on the case filed by two mobile telecommunications companies before one of them withdrew from the case. The other company pursued its case until the Administrative Court decision was issued.
