Police in Jeddah combed large areas of the city Tuesday night searching for a person who was involved in the murder of a youth in Al-Muntazahat District, east of Jeddah – and they found their man in less than an hour. The killer's passion for wearing fashion caps led to his arrest as he had left behind his black cap at the crime scene before running away, giving the police a lead to follow. The suspect admitted to stabbing his friend five times after an argument over old disputes, police said. After police received a report of a stabbed youth in a car on a dark side street in Al-Muntazahat District, a specialist security team rushed to the location and found the youth dead, with five deep stab wounds. Investigators initially thought thieves attacked him, but they discovered that the killer had not tampered with his documents, papers and identification papers. The discovery and the viciousness of the attack led police to focus on other hypotheses including a vendetta by enemies. During the field investigation, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) men found a black cap below the front seat and found bloodstains not belonging to the dead youth. Maj. Gen. Ali Al-Ghamdi, chief of Jeddah Police, and his assistant for criminal security, formed a follow-up team that focused on investigating the victim's probable enemies and on finding the cap's owner. It was a challenging task to search through the districts, but CID men learned that a friend of the dead youth was known to wear colored fashion caps and received reports that a dispute had erupted between the two, police said. Intensive investigations led to locating the suspect's house less than an hour after the crime. The suspect initially denied involvement, but he was questioned and admitted that he stabbed his friend. Police said the suspect confessed and told them, “The dead youth was my friend. A dispute broke out between us recently. I wanted to tell him to forget the past and open a new page so I went to him and we sat in his car. We started talking, but we raised our voices as we continued arguing. In a moment of blind anger, I took out a knife I had hidden in my thobe and stabbed him several times. I didn't realize what I had done until I saw my friend drop dead in his blood. I got out of the car and went into hiding in my house. I also hid the knife in the house.” First Lt. Nawaf Al-Bouq, spokesman of Jeddah Police, said investigations are still going on to learn more details about the crime.
