A Yemeni national has managed to steal and sell his sponsor's trailer truck. The Yemeni, who worked for five years with the trailer owner, took the trailer to Jeddah because he said it needed repairs, according to Meshal Abdullah, the sponsor. “He said he was coming back the next day and I did not doubt him,” Abdullah said. “I called the next day and he said he needed one more day and I was still not suspecting anything because there was no reason for me to doubt someone who worked for me for five years without any problems.” He said that after the worker turned off his mobile he was certain that he was the victim of theft and reported it to the police, who notified the Passports Department. Abdullah said the truck's license expired three months ago but was renewed while it was stolen. He said the sale took place at an Eastern Province car agency three days after the vehicle was stolen. The ownership transfer was carried out in Riyadh, he added. Spokesman for Makkah Traffic Police, Major Fawzi Al-Ansari, said the agency that carried out the sale is liable because agencies must verify the vehicle's information and the identity of the buyer and seller. Abdullah said his vehicle was sold for SR110,000, despite it being worth twice that. He added that police summoned the buyer, who did not show up, “but I will pursue the matter and will not relinquish my rights.”
