Osama Ja'far Faqih, President of the General Auditing Bureau (GAB), has called on Adel Fakeih, Mayor of Jeddah, to stop procedures for the appointment of the Assistant Mayor for the General Administration for Marketing and Information Affairs, Deputy Assistant Mayor for Follow-up and Development, Deputy Assistant Mayor in the General Administration for Information Technology, and Director General of Human Resources. The GAB president called for rectifying the status of the candidates according to Civil Service regulations. In a letter to Mayor Fakeih, the GAB chief stressed that the procedures for appointing employees, assigning them work in the mayoralty and granting them powers to issue administrative decisions and approve official transactions were not in accordance with the regulations. He said the jobs they have been assigned are leading supervisory public posts, and he emphasized that the procedures for appointment to these posts are subject to Civil Service regulations, as well as regulations governing the employment of non-Saudis in public posts and secondment. He said the proper procedures have not been followed for the appointment of all four officials. Sources said it has come to the GAB's attention that three of the four officials are owners of private companies, who have been working in the mayoralty without contracts and have been assigned to these posts, and that the fourth official is of an Arab nationality and works as a contract employee with another company. Meanwhile, Alawi Sumait, Deputy Mayor for Construction and Projects, said the designs for the tunnels and bridges would be completed soon. Al-Sumait said Sari-Madina Tunnel Project has been handed over to the contractor and work on it would begin after necessary arrangements from Jeddah Traffic Department.
