The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has contracted a German company to upgrade its laboratories at border posts to prevent the entry of any contaminated or carcinogenic foodstuff unfit for human consumption, said SFDA Vice Executive President for Food Affairs Dr. Ibrahim Bin Saad Al-Muhayzi. He said that SFDA has six main laboratories, and 23 subsidiary ones at border posts for food examination. Some samples are sent to main laboratories, and some times samples are sent to international laboratories. He said that no carcinogenic foodstuff has been detected during the past few weeks. He added that SFDA warns consumers and addresses relevant authorities as soon as any contaminated food items are detected.
