The agonizing wait of a Filipino family to know the whereabouts of a missing baby girl was over last week when a team of Philippine consulate officials identified the baby girl at Al-Birr Charitable Society here. The baby girl, identified as Sameera, was found in August last year in a trolley at a big mall here. The child, a year-and-half then, was transferred immediately to the Al-Birr Society on the recommendation of the director of Social Affairs of Makkah province. An intensive media campaign and news of the missing child on the websites helped in tracing the child. Mazen Batterjee, Chairman of the Al-Birr Society in Jeddah commended the role played by the media in the identification of the girl. “The team from Philippine consulate visited Al-Birr after seeing media reports and confirmed that the child belonged to a Filipino family,” he said “The grandmother of the missing girl posted information about her on the Internet about eight months ago,” Najla Al-Yami, Director of female department of Al-Birr Society, said. She added that Sameera's face features and her responding to Tagalog language at the society's Dar Al-Zahra social care center played a vital role in her identification. For the last year, Sameera has been taken care of by Al-Birr. “We'll hand over the girl to her relatives through official parties,” Al
