With its growing stature since the 2009 Washington Summit, its leaders announced on Sept. 25, 2009 that it would replace the G-8 or Group of Eight as the main economic council of wealthy nations.The heads of state of G-20 nations meet semi-annually at G-20 summits. The G-20 summits for 2010 is being held in Toronto, Canada, on June 26-27 and in Seoul on Nov. 11012. Starting in 2011, the G-20 heads of state summits are scheduled to be annual.
