The Ministry of Trade and Industry has issued a warning against the use of Chinese-made gypsum building sheet materials which containing strontium sulfide, which it said emits foul-smelling gases irritable to the eyes, nose and throat, and can cause breathing difficulties for asthmatics. The ministry said it received a report expressing concerns from the Commercial Attaché in China and noted that tests in the USA have also shown them to damage air-conditioning systems. The ministry said it had also received complaints from private firms asking it to remove the sheets from the market.
