Pakistan government is seriously considering granting voting rights to all eligible overseas Pakistanis, said Consul General Zaighamuddin Azam. He was addressing the monthly meeting of the Pakistani Community Welfare Forum at the consulate premises here on Sunday. Azam said during his recent visit to the Kingdom Federal Minister Syed Khursheed Shah has promised that government would initiate steps to grant voting rights to overseas Pakistanis. There are about 1.2 million Pakistanis living in the Kingdom. The Consul General also briefed the community about some additional facilities planned for them by the consulate. These include stationing of two qualified doctors in Makkah and Madina to cater to the health needs of those Pakistanis who cannot afford to go to hospitals. Free medical camps are also planned for the two holy cities on the lines of those established earlier in Jeddah and Taif, he said. Pakistani Community Welfare Forum is a joint venture of Pakistani community and the Consulate General for the welfare of Pakistanis in the Kingdom. Azam also announced plans to start a new school in Madina. He said a school for disabled students in Jeddah is also in the cards. The consulate has begun consultations with some psychiatrists, technocrats and doctors in this regard, he said. The consulate is trying to provide recreational facilities for youngsters who have terminated their studies. Squash and table tennis games are under consideration. __
