The work of the Najran mayoralty is under the spotlight after the collapse of part of an iron fence surrounding King Fahd Park in Saqam Forest in Najran injured a number of citizens. First Lieutenant Muhammad Al-Sharani, spokesman of the Civil Defense in Najran, said the hurt picnickers were rushed by Red Crescent ambulances to Najran General Hospital. He said a team from the safety section at the Civil Defense was assigned to inspect the fence and write a detailed report on the incident and on the safety measures at the park. He said the Civil Defense has taken a photograph of the fence indicating the areas of danger. It submitted a report in this regard to the mayoralty. The park is the mayoralty's responsibility. Saad Al-Shihri, the Mayor of Najran, refused to comment on the incident. It has been learnt that the citizens of Najran have repeatedly asked the authorities concerned at the mayoralty to improve services and shortcomings at the park. A source at the mayoralty said that the collapse of the fence is evidence of poor workmanship and that the contractor who carried out the project should be held accountable. Turki Aal Sab said that his 18-year-old brother, who had part of the fence fall on him, suffered a cracked sixth vertebra which caused him numbness in the lower half of his body. He said the doctor at the hospital had prescribed a belt for him to fit around his back for two months. If he does not improve, doctors would have to perform an operation to fix the cracked vertebra, said Aal Sab. He has called on the mayoralty to urgently repair the defects at the park which he said constitutes a danger to the lives of picnickers.
