The success of Doha Accord proves the fact that Arab problems can be solved in-house without the intervention of foreign interests, said Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal here Monday. The agreement would be the starting point for a lasting peace in Lebanon, he said in remarks before leaving Beirut where he took part in the swearing in ceremony of Michel Suleiman as the country's president. Prince Saud said the precursor to Doha agreement was Taif Accord which helped end the Lebanese civil war and set foundations for the current constitution. Taif accord gave the constitutional foundation to institutions in Lebanon, and the Doha agreement reiterated the importance of dialogue, rejecting confrontation and clash, he said. Prince Saud reiterated that the Arab Leagues Ministerial Council is capable of resolving Arab crises and disputes when its decisions receive the required Arab consensus and the suitable mechanism to follow up the implementation process. “It is high time for the Lebanese brethren to work seriously, sincerely and cooperatively to carry out the remaining Articles of the Doha agreement for political stability of the country,” the Saudi foreign minister said. “We need to preserve this model of coexistence and confront the advocates of fanaticism, rigidity, and extremism in ideas and behavior,” Prince Saud said. __
