smoking campaign organized by student interns from the Faculty of Dentistry at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, has highlighted the hazards of smoking, particularly the dangers of Shisha, also known as Hubble Bubble. The team based its warning on the latest statistical report which indicates a significant increase in the number of patients who are suffering from lung and upper respiratory tract diseases, including bronchitis, because of their smoking. The team explained the hazards of smoking Shisha, which affects the mouth, especially the gums. They pointed out that smoking Shisha causes tooth decay and in the long run, mouth cancer. The team said that the habit of smoking Shisha is widespread among women. They called on women to quit the bad habit to protect themselves from the negative medical consequences associated with smoking. The team indicated that smoking affects mouth tissue because of the heat generated from the chemical substances emitted by cigarettes and Shisha. Discoloration of the teeth also results from smoking. The team explained further that wrinkles and changes in complexion are directly linked to Shisha smoking, due to the inhalation of hazardous chemical substances. The campaign was carried out at Red Sea Mall, which is frequented by women and men. It included mobile dental clinics for checking teeth and an early detection of mouth diseases. The campaign was supervised by Dr. Nadia Al-Hazmi and Dr. Sahar Bukhari.
