King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, will patronize a three-day international Islamic conference here starting July 31, Dr. Abdullah Bin Abdulmohsin Al-Turki, Secretary General of the Muslim World League, said here Monday. The MWL is organizing the conference to mark the pan-Islamic body's 50th anniversary. Dr. Al-Turki lauded the great attention given by King Abdullah to the work being done by the organization. “The Muslim World League, which is a great Islamic entity, would not have earned a good international reputation without the grace of Allah Almighty and the support of the Saudi kings and leaders,” he said. This support, he added, has enabled the MWL to carry out its programs and prompted the United Nations to award it the certificate of the messenger of peace. Dr. Al-Turki pointed out that MWL activities have become distinguished in the era of King Abdullah through the organization's openness with the world and its establishment of contacts with the nations and leaders of different cultures and thoughts as well as representatives of religions and civilizations. He noted that the Muslim World League has been honored by serving the King's initiative pertaining to dialogue and the subsequent organization of dialogue conferences in Makkah, Madrid and Geneva. Dr. Al-Turki said next month's international conference will highlight the support given by the Kingdom's leaders to the organization's activities in the performance of its international Islamic mission and will shed light on its achievements in the last fifty years. Dr. Al-Turki said that the Muslim World League has extended invitations to several Ulema (Muslim scholars), callers and officials of Islamic organizations and centers around the world, and has prepared a comprehensive program for the participants of the event. It is hoped that the conference will realize its goals and yield positive results in a manner that serves Islam and Muslims, he added.
