A female student at Tabuk University had to be rushed to hospital after she had an acidic substance thrown over her by a fellow female student. A medical source at King Khaled Hospital in Tabuk said the student suffered severe second degree burns. A search is now under way for the female assailant. Dr. Naif Al-Jihani, spokesman of Tabuk University, said the case has been referred to the Tabuk Police. Al-Jihani said that the university has female security staff that work around-the-clock to keep an eye on the behavior of students. However, this incident took place when students came out of the examination hall. The assailant used the cover of the crowd to commit her crime. It is thought that the incident took place because of differences between the two students off campus. The victim had allegedly received a threatening mobile phone message earlier from her attacker. An eyewitness said that when she came out of the examination hall at the Faculty of Science she heard someone calling for help. She saw that the acidic substance had burnt the victim's clothes and her whole body. The witness said the female security staff rushed to close all the gates to prevent students from leaving. They started searching everyone. The witness said that the injured student is married, has children, is well-mannered and is very popular among her colleagues. The witness added that the victim is quiet and has no enemies at the faculty. – Okaz/SG – With inputs from Muhammad Al-Farshoutti, Afaf Al-Bluwi and Eid Al
