The General Auditing Bureau (GAB) said on Wednesday that over SR63.6 million has not entered the public treasury due to “financial irregularities” and failures in the work of government bodies. A report stated that the GAB had recuperated SR11.9 million of SR75.6 million sought, and that it had discovered excessive and unjustified payments on the part of government staff related to salary disbursements, work reassignment, travel allowances, scholarship courses abroad, appointment of staff, flight tickets, end-of-service packages, and failures to deduct tardiness fines. The report described the irregularities in question as “against the spirit of Control Law Article 93, Civil Service Law Article 27/7 and Ministry of Interior ruling 1345”. Also noted by the GAB were numerous delays in the completion of construction projects and subsequent failures to take up the issue with the contractors responsible.
