Police in Jizan seized 22 blocks of hashish and 620 bundles of qat in two separate incidents on Monday. The hashish was found in a car driven by a Saudi man who first raised the suspicions of officers when he was observed in a parked vehicle surrounded by a group of persons of African origin. As the patrol car approached the car sped off, prompting a chase which eventually led to the man's arrest without resistance. A second vehicle driven by a person of unknown identity attempted to flee when asked to stop by police, leading to a high-speed pursuit the wrong way down a main road. When the driver finally relented he was found to be hiding in his car 260 bundles of the banned leaf qat.
