A Saudi cargo plane loaded with 73 tons of urgent assistance arrived here Sunday morning. This is in line with the directives of King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, to provide urgent assistance to Myanmar after recent cyclone and floods hit the country, rendering thousands homeless. The plane is carrying foodstuffs, medicines and blankets. The departure of the Saudi relief plane coincided with an international conference in Yangon to pledge funds for survivors of the cyclone. Ambassador Turki Al-Ali emphasized that the king's directives reflect the fact that the Kingdom is seeking to achieve its mission to help the victims of weather conditions and natural phenomenon. Four more relief planes will arrive here in the next few days. The ambassador said Myanmar's appreciation and praise for this Saudi relief assistance stemmed from the noble and humanitarian gesture of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the people of the Kingdom who are always ready to help the afflicted ones around the world. Myanmar officials have appreciated the Kingdom's help in their hour of need.
