A high level educational delegation from the Central Board of Secondary Education ( CBSE) visited the International Indian school Jeddah (IISJ) on Wednesday and conducted a workshop on the new education system which contains continuous comprehensive evaluation (CCE)a new CBSE scheme of evaluation. The delegation comprised of Anshu Vaish, IAS, educational secretary, Government of India; Vineet Joshi , IAS chairman CBSE, Dr. Sadhana Prashar, educational officer and other officials were present on the occasion with Indian Consul General Sayeed Ahmed Baba and Shakeel Ahmed, educational consul. Vineet Joshi, chairman of the CBSE said that the new system will rely on grades rather than the old marking system and will help the student to compete at an international level. The present system contains assessment only in scholastic areas, but in the new system there will be assessment in all scholastic and non scholastic areas. Joshi explained in the workshop the features and benefits of the new system especially for the students who want to study abroad. “It will also give more importance to activity-based teaching. The teaching methodology will be radically different in the sense that the new evaluation system will encourage scientific enquiry,” he said. Joshi said that the content of the exams will not be different. The only difference between the two types of students will be that those who want to take board exams have to sit in other examination centers and the evaluation of their exams will be done by other teachers rather than their own teachers. The delegation also met with parents to let them know about the new scheme of evaluation and how it will work.
