A sketch map showing a plan for the development of Eastern Riyadh. RIYADH – Arriyadh Development Authority has given the go-ahead for the development of the eastern part of the capital city to help reduce congestion and overcrowding in downtown Riyadh. Eastern Riyadh is one of five subsidiary centers that will be developed inside the capital city. Each center represents an axis for the concentration of services and basic activities for residents. The centers have been designed to fulfill the requirements of a long-term plan for services drawn up by the development authority. Each center will have its own economic, recreational, cultural and administrative facilities suited to its population density. The subsidiary center in Eastern Riyadh is located on Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Road. This road ends at King Abdullah Road. The total area of this center is about two million square meters. It is in a strategic location and will reduce pressure on downtown Riyadh. According to the plans drawn by Arriyadh Development Authority, each center will accommodate 44,000 people with a maximum of 12,500 residential units. Those who will invest in the development of the subsidiary centers will focus on the infrastructure - the asphalting of roads and pavements, planting trees and other greenery, the building of water and electricity networks and construction of flood canals.
