The Medicine and Law Forum in Riyadh commences on Saturday with discussions over its three days scheduled to focus on insurance, healthcare quality and patient rights. The forum, which will be opened by Minister of Health Abdullah Al-Rabeah, will look at the role of the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties in supporting the quality of healthcare services, the impact of quality on patients' rights, and doctors' obligations towards patients. Also under attention will be the roles of the Council of Cooperative Health Insurance (CCHI), the Central Board for Accreditation of Healthcare Institutions, and insurance companies in improving the performance of healthcare facilities and reducing medical errors. Khaled Marghalani of the Ministry of Health's Media and Health Awareness department said the role of the CCHI in monitoring insurance companies would also be highlighted. “The CCHI monitors nearly 30 insurance companies which have capital of over SR10 billion,” Marghalani said.
