The Saudi Electricity Company is scheduled over the next few days to link the Western and Southern Regions to a unified power generating network. This was revealed by Engineer Ali Al-Barak during a meeting with Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Emir of Makkah, in Jeddah on Tuesday. Al-Barak also briefed Prince Khaled on the electricity projects endorsed in this year's budget for the region, at a total cost of SR25 billion. Prince Khaled was also informed of the company's plan to deal with the increase in loads expected over summer, the holy month of Ramadan and Haj. Al-Barak said the company has added 1,600 megawatts to the power generating network. This includes operating all the electricity stations in the region to meet the upcoming high demand for power. Meanwhile, Prince Khaled emphasized the importance of adopting proper methods for naming the streets and areas in Jeddah. He made the remark while chairing a meeting at his office here Tuesday on the issue. Present at the meeting was Adel Fakeih, Jeddah's Mayor. Prince Khaled also chaired another meeting at his office, of the Commission for the Development of Makkah and the Holy Sites. The Emir stressed that King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, wants effective development of the holy sites to offer the best possible services to the Guests of Allah.
