Sultana Albabtin, a laboratory technician at King Saud University in Riyadh has invented a safe guard mechanism for swimming pools to protect children and preserve the pool's appearance at the same time. Her initiative stemmed from an observation that people wanted pool safety measures in place without compromising the pool's attractiveness. Albabtin explained that her invention involves surrounding the pool with a sensor which will make a warning sound to initiate a rescue tool inside the pool that will help children that have fallen into the pool or are perceived as sinking. This mechanism will work even when the pool is not in use. She added that once a swimmer leaves the pool, the security mechanism will be activated after 30 seconds informing the swimmer that unless he or she deactivates the security mechanism, any activity will be deemed risky.
