The Emirate of the Asir Region has started an investigation into a bizarre mock funeral at a local school where a living schoolboy was wrapped in a shroud and carried on a bier on the shoulders of other pupils during morning roll-call. The probe follows publishing pictures of the incident which took place in full view of the school's 700 other students. Prince Faisal Bin Khaled Bin Abdul Aziz, Emir of Asir, has ordered an investigation into the incident which took place at the Heraa School in Khamis Mushayt. Prince Faisal's order stipulates that the investigation be carried out immediately by the security and education authorities. “The scene is in total contradiction to a [proper] education environment and is a clear violation of education policy,” said the Emir. He issued directives that the investigation results be referred to him quickly “so that the necessary measures are taken against the violators”. Sources confirmed that the investigating committee started its work on Saturday by interrogating the school headmaster, the teacher who came up with the idea and about 35 students. The student, who was wrapped in the white shroud and was lying flat on the bier, was also questioned.
